For a birthday in Chelsea, Music For A While at 518 W 27th St books the Vinyl Room, the Club Room or both, each with its own private bar, banquettes and table service, for groups from a few dozen up to 300 standing.
Below is what to check before you book a birthday venue in Manhattan, and how the night works here.
What to check before you book
A few questions sort the good options from the rest quickly.
- Is the space private, or a roped-off corner of a public bar?
- Is there a bar just for your group, and can drinks be packaged so nobody runs a tab?
- Who handles the music, and is there a proper DJ booth and sound system?
- Is there somewhere to sit as well as dance?
- How late can you stay?
How a birthday works at Music For A While
Smaller groups usually take the Vinyl Room: a curved bar, banquettes and lounge seating with table service, and vinyl playing from the on air booth. Bigger parties add the Club Room next door, with a laser ceiling, a DJ booth and room to dance.
Guests come in through a separate lobby entrance and private elevator, so your party never crosses the hotel.

Food, drinks and extras
Bar and food are in house: open bar packages in beer and wine, standard or premium, passed canapés, and stationed platters that each feed ten to twelve guests. Dessert tables, photographers and photo or 360 booths can be added.
Everything is priced per guest, so the events team sends a proposal for your headcount and date.
Ready when you are.
